Santiago de Compostela & Cathedral

This is your chance to visit Spain’s most celebrated place of pilgrimage, Santiago de Compostela. The magnificent cathedral and beautiful medieval city combine to make this one of the country’s most popular attractions. The cathedral was built in the 12th century in a Romanesque style but has had additions and alterations, including the highly ornate Obradoiro facade from the 18th century.

Departing from the port, you will enjoy a drive of approximately 70 minutes to Santiago de Compostela. Upon arrival at the coach park, you will follow your guide on a walk to the city centre, where you will enter the cathedral for a guided visit. Once inside, you will marvel at the fascinating architecture, including the beautiful cloister, along with the collection of tapestries and treasures accumulated by the cathedral during almost one thousand years of existence.

Santiago de Compostela itself has been declared a UNESCO national monument and the spacious squares, long stone arcades and surrounding buildings make it one of the most beautiful cities in Spain.

Following your visit to the cathedral, you will take a walk with your guide around each of the four squares, unique unto themselves, situated at the four points of the cross-shaped cathedral.

Refreshments of tea, coffee and biscuits will be served at the Parador Hostal de los Reyes Catolicos, a late 15th-century pilgrim hostel considered to be the oldest in the world. If time allows, there may be an opportunity for some souvenir shopping before walking back to the coach park to rejoin your coach for the approximately 70-minutes return drive to El Ferrol.
