La Coruna – The Crystal City

Discover La Coruna’s past and find out why it is often referred to as ‘The Crystal City’.

Departing the port, an approximately 45-minute drive will take you to La Coruna via the motorway, passing the enchanting village of Pontedeume.

Arriving at La Coruna, you will have a drive along the waterfront, where you can see the glass-enclosed balconies of the Avenida de la Marina, built to protect against strong winds, which glisten in the sunshine.

Then you will continue on a guided walk to the old city, passing the convent of Santo Domingo, the churches of Santa Maria del Campo and Santiago, and the squares of Santa Barbara, Azcarraga and Maria Pita.

Rejoining your coach, your journey continues with a drive to the Castillo de San Anton (Archaeological Museum) located within the ancient stone fortress of St. Anton. During your visit to the museum, you will see displays of Celtic jewellery, Roman pottery, a Viking leather boat, a typical kitchen of the 18th century, furniture and religious articles.

Your next stop will be to admire a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Europe’s oldest working lighthouse – the Tower of Hercules, originally constructed by the Romans and rebuilt in the 18th century. From here, a scenic drive will take you to the Arbore da Veira Restaurant, passing the Museum of Mankind, the magnificent beaches of Orzan and Riazor, and the Millennium Monument.

Arriving at the restaurant, you can relax and admire the spectacular views over the city whilst enjoying an array of traditional Spanish tapas accompanied with a glass of wine, soft drink or a cup of tea or coffee.

Fully refreshed, you will rejoin your coach for the approximately 45-minute return drive to El Ferrol.
