Alexandria, for Cairo

by coach & on foot
This Cairo overnight adventure departs from Alexandria on Saturday 24 May at 0700h and returns to Alexandria on Sunday 25 May at approximately 1900h.
This overnight experience provides you with the opportunity to travel further afield to explore more of what Cairo and ancient Egypt has to offer, with included visits to some of Egypt’s most iconic sights.
Day 1 – Saturday 24 May 2025
Departing from Alexandria by coach, your journey will take you towards Africa’s largest city, the teeming metropolis of Cairo. On arrival to Cairo, your first stop will be to see the amazing Egyptian artifacts from pre-historic times through Egypt’s pharaonic civilization through the more modern ancient Greek and Roman periods of Egyptian history.
Upon arrival, you will visit the Cairo Museum of Antiquities and acquaint yourself with Egypts ancient history. Here you will find the world’s largest and richest collection of Egyptian antiquities.
Following this, lunch will be enjoyed at a hotel or restaurant. There will then be some time to check-in at your Cairo Hotel.
After a short amount of free time, you will depart to the Medieval District of Cairo, known also as the Islamic Cairo area. Best explored on foot, your guide will lead you on a walk from Moaez Street, where you will see the beautiful Islamic houses and mosques, to the vibrant Khan El Khalili Bazaar, a haven for shoppers and a photographer's delight. Engage in the art of bargaining as you peruse gold, silver, gems, bronze, copper, exotic spices, leather goods, and the captivating atmosphere of coffee shops. The scene comes alive with the sound of music, elaborately carved wooden doors, and a myriad of colourfully dressed crowds, reminiscent of scenes from ‘A Thousand and One Arabian Nights.’
You will then indulge in a traditional Egyptian dinner at a local restaurant before heading back to your hotel for the overnight stay in Cairo.

Day 2 – Sunday 25 May 2025
After breakfast and checking out of your hotel, you will rejoin your coach and head southwards through verdant countryside to Egypt’s first capital, Memphis. Here you will visit the ruins of the Temple of Ptah; the 11m (36ft) fallen colossal statue of King Ramesses ll; and the Alabaster Sphinx of King Amenhopis ll. A short drive from Memphis lies the oldest, ancient cemetery of Sakkara. You will see the world’s first monumental stone building, the Step Pyramid of King Djoser, built by the engineer Imhotep almost 5,000 years ago. After visiting this complex you will continue to one of the Mastabas (funerary chambers) built nearby, such as those of Ptahhotep, Mereruka, Idut or Ti for an inside visit.
Following your visit to these fascinating historic sites, you will return to Cairo and enjoy lunch at a hotel or restaurant.
Fully refreshed, your exploration continues to the Giza Plateau, where the only remaining wonder of the ancient world, the Pyramids of Giza lie. Enjoy panoramic views from the Western Plateau, then stop at the middle pyramid where you can explore the site on your own. Continue down the valley to visit the guardian of this mortuary complex, the mighty Sphinx, watching the passage of time and men in aeons of silence, its mysterious expression an enigma yet to be unravelled.
A short stop will take place afterwards at a Papyrus Institute which will introduce you to the process of paper making from reeds, an art discovered by the Ancient Egyptians. Limited time will be also allocated for souvenir shopping before you commence the return drive to Alexandria.
