Cruise Diaries – A Day in the Life of Graham & Lewis at Sea

Tuesday, 30 September 2025

Graham and Lewis smiling and leaning on a ship's railing under a clear blue sky

For father-and-son duo Graham & Lewis, joining Ambition as part of The Cruise: Fun-Loving Brits at Sea was more than a holiday. It was their first ever cruise together.

Lewis admitted he was nervous before sailing. “I was nervous about the open sea but didn’t want to let Dad down. Friends laughed – it was so out of character for me!”

But once they settled in, life at sea quickly became something they embraced together. Here’s what a typical day at sea looked like for them – filled with laughter, relaxation and the discovery that cruising suits them both perfectly.

Sunrise in the Gym – “It felt like a floating spa”

The day began early for Lewis and Graham. Keen to stay active, they headed straight to the gym.

“The gym at sunrise followed by the sauna – it felt like a floating spa.”

For them, the gym wasn’t just about fitness – it was about finding a calm start to the day. Watching the sun rise over the horizon while working out was a moment they described as unforgettable.

Later, both went for a more leisurely breakfast.

Breakfast Together – A Chance to Reconnect

They met in the main restaurant, where breakfast offered plenty of choice.

Graham enjoyed the traditional cooked breakfast, while Lewis preferred something lighter. But for both, the highlight was sitting down together without the distractions of everyday life.

“We don’t normally get this much time together at home. Here, it was just us, enjoying each other’s company.”

That theme would carry through their whole sea day.

Morning Walk on Deck – “Fresh air and space to breathe”

After breakfast, they took a stroll around the walking deck.

Lewis commented: “I didn’t think I’d like being at sea, but walking the deck with fresh air and space to breathe was so relaxing.”

It became a moment of peace before diving into the ship’s activities.

Quizzes and Laughter – “We thought we’d be rubbish”

Late morning, they joined one of the ship’s quizzes. Neither considered themselves quiz masters, but they decided to give it a try.

“We went to a quiz and thought we’d be rubbish, but it was actually fun – we laughed the whole way through.”

It wasn’t about winning; it was about sharing the experience. They both said the laughter from that quiz was one of the funniest moments of their whole trip.

Lunch in Borough Market – Casual and Relaxed

By lunchtime, they were ready for something informal. Borough Market was their choice – a relaxed spot with plenty of variety.

Lewis loved being able to pick and mix from the counters, while Graham enjoyed the hearty options. It was a chance to refuel before their afternoon plans.

Afternoon Relaxation – Sauna & Socialising

Lewis headed back to the sauna for some downtime, describing it as “a perfect way to unwind.”

Meanwhile, Graham struck up conversations in one of the lounges. For him, meeting new people was one of the best parts of the cruise. “Everyone was so friendly – staff and guests alike. You felt like part of a community.”

Dinner Together – “Everything done with a smile”

Dinner was a highlight of the day. They opted for the Holyrood restaurant, where service was both efficient and warm.

Graham reflected: “It was the most organised and efficient holiday experience ever. Everything was done with a smile.”

For them, dining wasn’t just about food – it was about sharing stories from the day and planning what they’d do tomorrow.

Show Time – West End Style at Sea

After dinner, they headed to The Palladium Theatre for one of the ship’s shows. Lewis admitted he hadn’t expected much. “I thought it might be like a hotel cabaret, but it was West End quality – I was blown away.”

Graham agreed:
“The entertainment was top class. It made the evenings feel really special.”

Evening Drinks and Reflections

The evening ended in one of the lounges, where they enjoyed a drink together and looked back on their day.

Lewis smiled as he admitted: “I never thought I’d enjoy cruising – but I loved it. I’d do it again tomorrow.” Graham added proudly: “Seeing my son embrace it made it even more special.”

A Day in the Life – Lessons from the Sea

Their sea day shows just how much a cruise can offer – activity, relaxation, laughter and connection.

What started with nerves about the open sea became a day full of joy. Graham & Lewis discovered that cruising gave them not just destinations, but the gift of time together.

“It was a floating all-inclusive – what’s not to like?”
