Beamish Open Air Museum
Newcastle Tyne

by coach & on foot
Departing from the port, your journey will first take you to view the Angel of the North. Instantly recognisable against the Tyneside skyline, Antony Gormley’s Angel of the North is possibly the country’s most famous work of public modern art. A short stop will be made to provide you with the opportunity to disembark the coach and take a photo of this impressive sculpture.
Your journey then continues to Beamish – The Living Museum of the North, where you will have approximately 3-hours to explore at leisure.
Beamish is a world-famous open-air museum which brings the history of Northeast England to life, where buildings have been rescued, restored and rebuilt exactly as they once were. The museum is divided into different areas according to different eras. This includes 1820s Pockerley – one of the original buildings on the museum site that was built on top of a hill and is now at the centre of the 1820s landscape. There is also a re-creation of a town from the 1900s where you can see how families lived and worked in the years leading up to the First World War. You may choose to visit the 1940s farm, where you can discover what life was like on the home front during the Second World War. No visit to Beamish is complete without a ride on one of the vintage trams or buses, operating on a circular route around the museum.
There are plenty of opportunities to purchase refreshments during your visit, along with shops to browse for souvenirs.
