Winchester & Its Great Hall
Portsmouth

by coach & on foot
During this experience you will discover the city of Winchester surrounded by water meadows and rolling chalk hills.
Departing from Portsmouth, an approximately one-hour drive will bring you to Winchester. Upon arrival, your guide will lead you on a walk to the 13th century Winchester Great Hall, home to one of the best-known symbols of medieval mythology: King Arthur’s Round Table. The Great Hall was originally built for William the Conqueror in 1067 to maintain the city following the Norman Conquest. Since then, the hall has witnessed many major events, including the trial and conviction of Sir Walter Raleigh. The adjacent buildings contain an exhibition corridor and a gift shop in which you will have time to visit.
Following your tour, you will have free time to explore the centre of this royal city, which is steeped in its famous history. Winchester was the heart of Alfred the Great’s famed Kingdom of Wessex and the original home of William the Conqueror’s great Domesday Book. Winchester also offers opportunities for shopping connoisseurs with its tempting array of independent shops, boutiques, and galleries as well as larger, well-known brand stores. There are also plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from.
At the agreed place and time, you will rejoin your coach for the return drive to Portsmouth.
