Portsmouth & The D-Day Story

This half-day experience will introduce you to the city of Portsmouth and visit The D-Day Story museum.

Departing from the port, your tour begins with a short drive to the largest remaining Roman fortress in northern Europe, Portchester Castle. Here you will take a short walk with your guide to a viewpoint that looks out across Portsmouth Harbour.

Your journey then continues to Portsdown Hill, a chalk ridge that provides views across the countryside of Portsmouth, the South Downs, the Solent, and over to the Isle of Wight.

Returning to Portsmouth, you will drive towards the seafront and the impressive Royal Marines Buildings at Southsea. Enjoy views of the 16th century castle built by Henry VIII on the drive through Old Portsmouth. You will then pass the headquarters of the British America’s Cup racing team at Spice Island before heading south to The D-Day Story.

2024 marks the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings. The museum, whose focus is on the liberation of Europe from Nazi German occupation, is full of audio-visual presentations, authentic vehicles, and interactive exhibits. You will have some free time here to explore the museum at leisure.

Following your visit, you will rejoin your coach for the short transfer back to the port.
