Norway in a Nutshell

This experience affords the opportunity to combine some of Norway’s most iconic attractions – fjords, waterfalls and the renowned Flåm Railway!

Begin your journey in Eidfjord, a small village at the head of the Hardangerfjord built on sand and gravel moraines from the last Ice Age. Drive along the south side of the fjord to the Hardanger Bridge, where you will cross to the north shore. Pass by Granvin Lake, before beginning an ascent up some hairpin bends to Skjervet Pass. Pause for a photo stop to admire the twin cascades of Skjervet Waterfall, plunging from a height of 150m (492ft).

Continue with a descent through fertile plains to the Tvindefoss Waterfall, said to be the fountain of youth! Next up is the UNESCO World Heritage Nærøyfjord, and the village of Gudvangen. This charming village is nestled between towering mountains and offers impressive views of the fjord.

Proceed through tunnels through the mountains to Flåm, located at the head of the Aurlandsfjord. Here, you will embark on one of the most spectacular train rides in Norway. The line is only 20km (12mile) long, and lasts approximately 50-minutes, as it climbs to a height of 867m (2844ft) above sea level to Myrdal Station, situated on the mainline between Oslo & Bergen.

At the most scenic parts of the route, the train will slow to allow you to enjoy the views. At the beautiful Kjosfossen it will stop completely, offering a chance to leave the train to take photographs. After passing through the line’s longest tunnel, Naali, the mountain views continue. At Myrdal, you will change trains to take the mainline down the Raundalen mountain valley to Voss, well-known for its stone church, modern hotels and excellent winter sports facilities. Here, you will take a break to enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.

Feeling refreshed, rejoin your coach for the scenic drive back to Eidfjord.
