Sandie Sowler

Guest Speaker - Destination Wildlife

Dr Sandie Sowler MCIEEM (rtd) FLS is an ecologist, author, retired lecturer and trainer. She trained as a zoologist and obtained her doctorate in fruit bat physiology, in South Africa. She is a retired member of the Chartered Institute of Ecological & Environmental Management and a Fellow of the Linnaean Society. Sandie has taught in schools and universities and has 30 years’ experience as an ecology consultant and recently retired from training consultant ecologists. She is a consultant for IUCN’s Commission on Ecosystem Management. Sandie lives in Gloucestershire UK with her husband and enjoys dancing, cycling, kayaking and pony trap driving.

Ian Butterfield

Guest Speaker - Photography

Ian is a professional photographer with over 20 years’ experience, specialising in travel and theatre photography and in training others. A popular cruise speaker, he has delivered engaging talks and workshops helping passengers improve their photography at any skill level, using anything from phones to advanced cameras. He also presents illustrated talks on the Biblical Exodus, drawing on his own travel photography. An award-nominated amateur actor, Ian performs, directs, and writes monologues, including one-man shows and performances for cruise services. He has also led Christian Fellowship gatherings on board and is keen to continue contributing in this way.

Denise Fasulo

Crafter

Denise Fasulo is an outgoing 53 year old from Whitstable in Kent. She is married and a mother to one grown up son. She started her career in schools and is a Qualified Reflexologist. She has been a Chair of several committees and is currently a secondary school Governor, all on a voluntary basis. She has been crafting most of her life as it is a true passion and has many happy memories of crafting with her grandma & mum. She taught crafts to both adults & children for many years in London, through contracts with local councils. She also ran a Badgers Group for 8 years where she taught children multiple arts & crafts and had to consistently produce ideas around a theme. After moving to Kent, Denise started running crafting classes for adults at local Churches and other venues including from her crafting cabin at home. She enjoys selling her crafts at local craft fairs. Denise is a real people person; she is patient and nothing makes her happier than seeing people bonding over a craft activity. She enjoys all sorts of crafts from Paper Craft, Decoupage, Jewellery making, Cross stitch, Painting, Toy making, Sequin Art, Quilling, Polymer Clay & more. She uses colour, patterns & texture to bring things alive and believes crafting is for everyone, whatever their ability. She uses sustainable and recycled materials wherever possible. When not crafting, Denise's hobbies include singing with Rock Choir. Denise has been lucky enough to have cruised frequently in the last three years which has encouraged her to want to combine the two things she loves best, cruising and crafting.

Ship is beautifully clean. All the crew from Captain downwards are very friendly and helpful. Food is excellent, only complaints on that score, would like a choice of biscuits/crackers with cheese and biscuits and wasn't impressed with afternoon tea in Borough Market, sandwiches were unimaginative and stale, scones were on the dry side and would have preferred jam and cream served in small pots not just sloshed onto the plate. Yes, I have mentioned this in reviews. Everything else was delicious! We enjoyed the entertainment onboard, very professional. Beds were comfortable, the cabins are a little dated and the aircon can be a bit tricky but for an old ship very good. I particularly liked the large shower cubicle. We're looking forward to our next voyage on Ambience in 2027.
