Harstad Heritage Discovery

This experience combines an introduction to Harstad with a glimpse into the city’s history and heritage.

Boarding your coach at the pier, begin with a short orientation drive through the centre of Harstad towards the Trondenes Peninsula.

Your first visit will be to Trondenes Church, erected in 1250 and built in late Roman style. The oldest piece inside the church is the font, where the first Christians of Northern Norway were baptized. The church also houses three beautiful triptychs, a work of art made of three panels, which were made in Northern Germany in medieval times, and the organ is in late Baroque style. Around the church building runs a wall that dates back to medieval times, and you can even see the remains of two watchtowers that overlook the sea.

Your next visit will be to the Trondenes Historical Centre & Middle Age Farm, where you can discover the region’s varied history from the Stone Age to the present day through a range of exhibits. The reconstructed farm brings to life what life was like in the Middle Ages, with its buildings built using traditional crafts.

Finally, board your coach for the return drive back to the pier, taking in the views of the city and fjord along the way.
