Highlights of Trondheim
Trondheim

by coach & on foot
Founded by Viking King Olav Tryggvason in 997 AD, Trondheim is one of Norway's oldest and most beautiful cities. It is also the third most populous municipality in Norway.
From the pier, your journey begins with a drive through Trondheim’s bustling city centre, where you can admire the statue of the Viking King in the market square. This experience includes an inside visit to Nidaros Cathedral, built over the burial site of King Olav II. Dating from the 12th century, it is one of Scandinavia's largest and finest Gothic-style cathedrals and a significant pilgrimage church.
You continue with a drive to your next stop for photos at Kristiansten Fortress, which offers fantastic views over the city. The fortress was built after the 1681 city fire to protect Trondheim from eastern attacks.
Next, you will visit the Sverresborg Trøndelag Folk Museum, which is built around the ruins of King Sverre’s castle. This open-air museum showcases urban and rural culture with over 80 reassembled buildings, including a stave church dating from 1170 AD.
From the Folk Museum, you will return to the city centre, taking in sights such as the Old Town Bridge and the colourful old warehouses along the river’s banks on your way back to the pier.
