Your experience begins with a short walk from the pier to where you will embark on a sightseeing boat for a trip along the River Nidelva, stepping back in time as you glide past the colourful old wharves, and under the Old Red City Bridge – known locally as the ‘portal of happiness’. You will pass the Nidaros Cathedral, before arriving at the historical fish market, Ravnkloa, where your river cruise ends.

From here, continue with a walk through the city passing some of the key sites. After a walk along Munkegata, Trondheim’s most important thoroughfare, you will come to Stiftsgården. With 140 rooms, it is one of the largest wooden buildings in northern Norway, and is the official residence of the Norwegian Royal Family in Trondheim.

At the market square, you will be able to take a closer look at the statue of the city’s founder, the Viking King Olav Tryggvason, which towers over the square. At Nidaros Cathedral, built over the burial grounds of St. Olav, Norway’s patron saint, pause at the west side. Your guide will impart knowledge of the history of the cathedral, whose construction began as early as 1070.

Crossing over the Old Red Town Bridge, you will have one of the best views over the colourful wharves before exploring the area of town called Bakklandet, featuring more charming wooden architecture. Originally this was the industrial part of the city, but the former factories have now been renovated into desirable homes and gourmet restaurants.

Finally, stroll through modern Solsiden (the sunny side), an area popular with students, before ending your walk at the cruise pier.
