Roseau Whale & Dolphin Safari

Your experience begins with an approximately 183m (200yard) walk to the catamaran embarkation point.

Having embarked on your whale and dolphin watching vessel, you will receive a safety briefing followed by an introduction to whale watching. Your captain will then take you to about 3 to 8 miles (4.8km to 13km) offshore to begin your search for these magnificent animals.

At intervals, your captain will bring the boat to a stop, and a directional hydrophone will be placed into the water to see if it can pick up any whale or dolphin activity. During the cruise, the crew will give you commentary on the whales, dolphins and other wildlife that you may encounter. If they are present, you may hear the rhythmic clicking of the Sperm whales. Please keep in mind that there are rules regarding the distance the captain can approach any whales of around 49m (160ft). Once positioned, if the whales choose to come closer to the boat, that is entirely up to them. The captain will do their best to manoeuvre the boat to provide you with good views and allow you to take your photos.

The deep waters surrounding Dominica are a natural breeding ground for the Sperm Whale, as well as several species of dolphins. The most commonly seen species are Sperm, Pilot and False Killer whales as well as Spotted, Spinner and Pantropical dolphins.

On the return trip to Roseau, enjoy complimentary refreshments, including rum punch and fruit juice, whilst enjoying the coastal views. Disembarking the vessel, it is just a short walk back to the ship.
