Lisbon’s Famous Sights

This experience will introduce you to the most famous landmarks of Portugal’s capital city.

Departing from the pier, your journey will take you to the Belém district, an area renowned for its wealth of monuments from Portugal’s 15th-century ‘Golden Age of Discovery’. Along the way, you pass by the monument to Prince Henry the Navigator and the Portuguese Discoverers.

Your journey then takes you past the Tower of Belém, built as part of a 16th-century project to defend Lisbon from enemy ships. The unique design includes a modern and heavily armed bastion, protruding over the River Tagus.

From here your experience will make an outside stop at the Jeronimos Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This spectacular building has high arches, impressive columns and ornate spires. The church is the final resting place of Vasco da Gama, who set sail from Belém on a voyage of discovery around the Cape of Good Hope to India in 1497.

With your guide, you’ll take a short walk to a local cafe where you will enjoy a cup of coffee and a ‘Pastel de Nata” (custard tart).

Your journey continues across the 25th April Suspension Bridge to the base of the towering statue of ‘Christ the King’ from where there is a magnificent panoramic view over Lisbon and its surroundings.

Recrossing the bridge, your return drive to the port will take you along some of the city centre’s famous streets before you return to the ship.
