Departing from the pier, an approximately half-hour drive will bring you to the estate of Queluz which became one of the favourite residences of the Portuguese Royal Family in the 18th century. At a time when every European court tried to imitate the way of life of Versailles, the consort prince of Queen Maria I engaged both French and Portuguese architects and decorators to transform Queluz into a charming residence where the court enjoyed their summers.

Upon arrival, you will enjoy a guided visit to the palace, decorated with Portuguese and French furniture, carpets, porcelains and paintings and learn a little about the history of Portugal during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Following your internal visit, enjoy some free time to explore the beautiful gardens where many outdoor parties used to be held by the Queen and her family. You may wish to browse the gift shop for a souvenir of your visit.
