Historic Málaga
Malaga

by coach & on foot
Málaga, with its population of half a million, is the largest coastal city in Andalusia. Despite its size, the city has preserved its traditional character, remaining largely untouched by tourism and the passage of time. Málaga's rich history is evident in its impressive archaeological sites and captivating monuments left by ancient civilizations.
Begin your exploration with a short sightseeing drive through the city to Mount Gibralfaro, whose slopes are home to the Alcazaba complex. You will visit the Alcazaba, a historic palace that was built in the 11th century to be the residence of the Arabian caliphs (kings) and offers stunning panoramic views of Malaga and its bay.
Your journey will continue as you visit the magnificent Renaissance-style cathedral, built between the 16th and 18th centuries and now a National Monument. The cathedral is renowned for its Baroque choir stalls created by Pedro de Mena and remarkable examples of Spanish Renaissance sculpture.
A short walk from the cathedral will take you to the Roman Theatre and its surroundings. Admire these iconic landmarks from the outside as your guide informs you of their fascinating history.
Conclude your experience with a scenic drive through the city, where you’ll see Málaga's Bullring, City Hall, Courthouse, and the Central Post Office, all charming examples of 19th century architecture, before returning to your ship.
