Jacque & Tamara – A Mother–Daughter Adventure at Sea

Thursday, 23 October 2025

Some holidays are about more than just destinations – they’re about the people you share them with. For Jacque & Tamara, a mother–daughter duo from Croydon, their first-ever cruise with Ambassador Cruise Line was exactly that: a week of laughter, discovery and memories that will last a lifetime.

“We’ve been on plenty of holidays together, but never a cruise. For us, it wasn’t just a holiday – it was a chance to make memories that last forever.”

Here’s how they found life on board Ambience as part of The Cruise: Fun-Loving Brits at Sea.

“We couldn’t imagine going with anyone else” – choosing each other

When asked who they’d take on their first cruise, the answer was simple.

“We’re best friends as well as mother and daughter. We do everything together, so of course it had to be each other.”

Their bond was clear from the start, and cruising together gave them the perfect chance to spend quality time side by side.

First impressions – “It felt like a floating city”

Neither had cruised before, so stepping onto Ambience was a big moment.

“It felt like a floating city – everything we needed was there. At first it was a bit overwhelming, but then we realised it was ours to explore.”

For Tamara, the welcome made all the difference:
“The staff were amazing – nothing was too much trouble. It instantly put us at ease.”

Favourite spaces – where memories were made

When asked about their favourite spots on board, both had different answers.

Jacque loved The Palladium Theatre:
“The shows were fantastic – you don’t expect that level of entertainment at sea. It really did feel like the West End.”

Tamara chose the outdoor decks:
“I loved the fresh air and sea views. Walking the deck together every morning became our little ritual.”

It was the combination of lively entertainment and quiet shared moments that made the ship feel special to them.

Trying new things – “We laughed so much in dance class”

One of their favourite memories came from trying something they’d never done before.

“We laughed so much in dance class. Neither of us are dancers, but giving it a go together was hilarious.”

They also joined quizzes and sampled the spa, but it was the dancing that stood out.
“It didn’t matter if we got the steps wrong – it was about having fun together.”

That sense of freedom to try, without pressure, made their cruise unique.

Dining together – “every meal was an occasion”

Food was another highlight, and both agreed it exceeded their expectations.

“The variety was brilliant – from casual meals to formal nights. Every meal felt like an occasion.”

Jacque loved the afternoon teas:
“We don’t often get time to sit and chat like that at home. Afternoon tea was our time to slow down.”

Tamara couldn’t get enough of the gala dinners:
“The Baked Alaska Parade was so much fun – the atmosphere was electric.”

Destination discoveries – “Port days were our favourites”

Exploring new places together was a big part of their trip.

“The ports were amazing. We loved wandering, trying the local food, and just soaking it all in.”

Jacque was drawn to the cultural side:
“I love learning about the history, the architecture, and how people live.”

Tamara leaned towards the food:
“Trying local dishes was a must – it’s how you really get to know a place.”

Together, they found a rhythm that suited them both – part sightseeing, part indulgence, all shared.

Special moments – “time together without distractions”

For Jacque & Tamara, what made the cruise most special wasn’t just the destinations or the shows – it was the uninterrupted time together.

“At home, life gets in the way – work, chores, everything. On the ship, it was just us. No distractions, just time together.”

They spoke about laughing until their sides hurt, long conversations on deck, and the joy of simply being present with each other.

“We’ll never forget this holiday – it gave us memories we’ll always share.”

Advice for other first-time cruisers

Their message to other families or friends considering a cruise was simple:

“Don’t overthink it – just do it. You’ll never regret the memories you make.”
“Pack comfy shoes for walking on excursions – and leave room for all the food you’ll eat on board!”
