Your journey begins with a scenic drive south, passing through charming villages and an almost unreal vista of green that covers the whole island. As you ascend towards the volcanic massif of Fogo, admire the amazing views that the second highest mountain on the island has to offer. At 575m (1,886ft) high lies the Lagoa do Fogo (Fire Lake) - the island’s most recent and one of the most beautiful.

Continue through dense foliage until halfway down the mountain where you will discover a naturally warm waterfall. This remarkable natural feature is located on the north slope of the Fogo Volcano – an area known as ‘Caldeira Velha’, where, besides the amazing vegetation, you can witness examples of geothermal activity.

Traversing the north coast, enjoy impressive views over the green and inaccessible landscape. Then suddenly an unexpected sight appears – fields of tea bushes. After your scenic drive, you will arrive at Chá Gorreana, one of the oldest tea plantations in Europe.

Established in 1883, Chá Gorreana maintains all its original traditions. The deep clay and acidic soil of the island, high precipitation and the humid climate create perfect conditions to produce a high-quality tea, distinguished by its delicate aroma. Learn all about the tea production process during a visit to the factory and museum, which includes machinery dating from the 19th century.

Conclude your visit with a cup of tea accompanied by a slice of pineapple cake.

Leaving the Tea Factory behind, travel along the north coast, making a stop at Santa Iria Belvedere, from where both the north and west coasts can be seen, before returning to the port.
