Mark Lawrenson

Guest Speaker - Footballer & Pundit

Mark Lawrenson is a renowned former footballer and pundit. As a defender, he starred for clubs including Liverpool, joining in 1981 for a then-record £900,000. During his tenure, he won multiple league titles and cups, showcasing his defensive brilliance. Before Liverpool, he earned Player of the Year honours at Preston North End and Brighton & Hove Albion. Internationally, Mark represented the Republic of Ireland, making his debut in 1977. He later ventured into management with Oxford United and Peterborough United and played in the American Soccer League with the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Post-playing, Mark became a respected pundit, spending over 30 years with the BBC, covering six World Cups and featuring on Match of the Day and Football Focus. His sharp analysis and engaging style made him a fan favorite. A Hall of Fame inductee, his wit and expertise make him an outstanding and engaging personality.

Jenny Powell

Originally from London, Jenny has settled in leafy Cheshire with her family.  Jenny has a wealth of experience in television and radio.  You may remember Jenny from Wheel of Fortune,  Love 2 Shop and has even been a presenter on Top of The Pops! 

Kate Thornton

You may recognise Kate Thornton from her hosting of The X-Factor, Loose Women and This Morning – but now she’s in the Greatest Hits Radio house every weekday 1-4 pm. Born in 1973 Kate was the first female and youngest ever editor of pop magazine Smash Hits at age 22, producing her first issue in February 1996 covering the breakup of boy-band Take That You can also join Kate for ‘The Smash Hits Years’ every Sunday afternoon – spend a couple of hours in two different musical years – with the Greatest Hits and memories to bring it all flooding back.

Brendan Lally

Guest Speaker

As the son of a Sheffield steelworker living in a council house and having just a grammar school education, Brendan went on to achieve a good status in life through working hard and having motivational objectives. His worldwide travel both socially and professionally has enabled him to obtain a good knowledge of people and places both culturally and historically as evidenced in his Destination Talks. Being more 'fact' than 'fiction’, Brendan enjoys biographies and the arts as well as a love of music with past involvement in amateur operatics and dramatics. This is reflected in his presentations on famous people, musicals and the classics. He achieved high rank in the police service and his varied career culminated in a three-year secondment to the Home Office, London as a Staff Officer to HM Chief Inspector of Constabulary. By complete contrast post-retirement, he ran a small West Country residential hotel with his wife and it was shortlisted for the award of "Best Small UK Hotel" Since 2015, Brendan has been the guest of different cruise lines speaking on a large variety of subjects rather than having a specific specialism. Not surprisingly this has resulted in selection for several lengthy 'at sea' cruises including World Cruise Sectors. Being of Irish descent, he is at home on British Isles and Ireland itineraries as well as his much-visited Norway, the West Indies and parts of South America. His talks are well received with excellent feedback and repeat bookings. Brendan lives on the outskirts of Sheffield, enjoys jogging, golf and sequence dancing.

Jean Fullerton

Jean is a true cockney, was born and bred in East London and worked there as a district nurse for twenty-five years and now writes full-time. She has won multiple awards, and all her books are set in East London. She is a qualified District and Queen's nurse who has spent most of her working life in the East End of London, as a District Nurse and a university lecturer at a London university. Jean has been a guest speaker at hundreds of organisations and a cruise ship speaker for fourteen years and teaches creative writing.

Sharon Tombs

Crafter

Sharon Tombs is sewing professional with a passion for upcycling and sustainability. Educated to HNC level she has been managing a successful sewing organisation for 10 years. She holds a City & Guilds diploma in ‘Craft Skills for Creative Industries’ which included awards in Health & Safety, Copyright law and all aspects of fabric and sewing skills and knowledge. She also has qualifications in Leadership and management. She has been organising and running sewing groups for many years mainly within volunteering and constantly researches ideas to ensure that projects are as environmentally friendly as possible. Adaptable and friendly Sharon has been featured in several magazines representing dressmaking and creativity in the charitable sector.

ORCA

ORCA is one of the UK’s leading whale and dolphin conservation charities, dedicated to the protection of whales, dolphins and porpoises around the world. Ocean Conservationists will be showcasing the incredible diversity of wildlife that can be spotted from the deck, helping everyone learn more about the marine environment around them whilst collecting vital data about whales, dolphins and porpoises to contribute to their protection. Whilst on board, the team will be delivering activities to help guests learn more about these amazing animals as well as the threats they face, including the Ambassador & ORCA pledge and the first ever cruise "Anti-whaling" campaign.

What to expect on this sailing... Not only are the Canary Islands themselves home to a wonderful array of wildlife, from charismatic dolphins to elusive deep-diving Cuveri's beaked whale, but the Bay of Biscay is one of the top places to go whale watching in the world. Some of the largest species in the world can be seen here, like fin whales and so is an important area for monitoring and contributing to ORCA's ship strike work. A number of Important Marine Mammal Areas (IMMAs) in the last 12 months, and sightings could include acrobatic common dolphins, to the elusive deep-diving Cuveri's beaked whale.

The Ambition was looking great after her recent "re-fit" The whole experience was excellent. The staff, the entertainers, the food, the excursions, the customer service.
