Rod Repton

Guest Speaker

Rod studied with the Open University where he gained his BA (Hons) in Criminology, Sociology, Psychology and History. He went on to have a long and successful career in the police service progressing through the ranks to Detective Chief Inspector at New Scotland Yard. On retirement from the police Rod set up his own Private Investigations Company, Repton Consultancy Ltd, which has a sister company in New York. He has developed an interest in some of the world’s leading criminal minds who commit both detected and undetected serious crime. Rod also works as an crime advisor for Multistory TV, a production company for the ATV network. As President of his local Speakers Club and an experienced cruise ship speaker for over 8 years with repeat invitations across many lines and high scores. Rod enjoys creating new presentations as well as sharing his current varied talks which all are accompanied by quality presentations. Rod now enjoys the armchair investigations of unsolved crimes, researching social and general history, walking, watching football and gardening.

Martin Lunn

Guest Speaker

**Astronomy** Martin is a lecturer in Astronomy and a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society. His lectures are suitable for everyone, with 'plenty of stories....just enough science'. Martin was curator of Astronomy at the Yorkshire Museum in York from 1989 until 2011 when he took early retirement. As a public astronomer he promoted astronomy at the York Observatory, which is part of the museum, including arranging open viewing evenings and special events. He also undertook astronomical research. Martin worked with North Yorkshire Education Authority and the Yorkshire Museum to produce an event called ‘Earth and Space’ which ran each autumn for six years from 1992. The event was a series of interactive workshops running over a six week period and 6,000 children participated every year. In 1998 Martin was presented with an MBE for services to astronomy and education. Before the pandemic Martin spent his time working in primary schools with his mobile Stardome Planetarium, sometimes presenting additional ‘Star Parties’; after school events where parents and children are shown the night sky. He was also regularly invited to speak to astronomical societies and other general interest groups, and is currently starting to do this from home as more societies embrace virtual meetings. Martin made a series of short films on Youtube about the planets which can be seen on the ‘Hitch Hikers Guide to the Cosmos’ page. He writes the monthly astronomy column for his local newspaper and presents a weekly astronomy show on community radio with internet listeners around the world.

Pam Williamson

Crafter

Pam has spent many years living in the middle and far east and now lives Dorset where she runs charity craft workshops, enjoys dancing and teaches patchwork. Pam designs all of her craft projects herself and prepares all of the kits. Each project is possible to complete in one session, irrespective of previous experience. Using a variety of mediums, her projects are useful, attractive and easy to pack for guests to keep or give as gifts. Her workshops are enjoyable, relaxed and fun for participants, hopefully adding to the overall enjoyment of their cruise.

ORCA is one of the UK’s leading whale and dolphin conservation charities, dedicated to the protection of whales, dolphins and porpoises around the world. Ocean Conservationists will be showcasing the incredible diversity of wildlife that can be spotted from the deck, helping everyone learn more about the marine environment around them whilst collecting vital data about whales, dolphins and porpoises to contribute to their protection. Whilst on board, the team will be delivering activities to help guests learn more about these amazing animals as well as the threats they face, including the Ambassador & ORCA pledge and the first ever cruise "Anti-whaling" campaign.

What to expect on this sailing... Norway is an area we have studied for over 15 years and is increasingly an important habitat for different species. The northern part of Norway in particular is incredibly important and the data collected also feeds into monitoring the impact of commercial whaling on minke whales in Norwegian waters.

Booking was easy and operator was knowledgeable and helpful. Disappointed that the website was showing a 10% discount code that did not work online. When operator asked it was stated that the promo code finished on the 12th even though we did not browse until 15th. We did not get the discount- very disappointing. Also we are repeat customers as we sailed the Norwegian fjords back in February with Ambassador but there is no loyalty program, rewards or discounts.

Tried to book cruise online, but the system froze at the "processing " stage. This was annoying, resulting in me having to ring Ambassador customer services. However, Karen was excellent on the phone call, resolved the issue quickly and completed my booking successfully.

“A lovely relaxing holiday with lovely people.”

Excellent service from dedicated staff. The ship was really comfortable and warm while the temperature outside was just above zero. Excellent food and service in the Buckingham Restaurant which was followed by the excellent shows in the Palladium Theatre which was followed by excellent entertainment in the Observatory Lounge. The Spa offered all sorts of relaxing treatments to be enjoyed on sea days. I have already booked my next cruise in April.

So far, so good. Booking was really easy and we were attracted by the free drink package offer so the cruise worked out at a good deal. Also, it’s sailing to a few ports that we haven’t visited before despite being seasoned cruisers. Booking was really easy and the agent was very helpful, and when she heard that we had been recommended to try Ambassador by a friend who had cruised with them earlier this year, she pointed us to their ‘refer a friend’ programme. Unfortunately, when he tried to do this it was rejected as he didn’t have a cruise currently booked which wasn’t how it was explained to us. Never mind! We look forward to our first Ambassador cruise in May.
